As of April 1, 2014, the Government of Canada will continue to take action to embed environmental considerations into public procurement, in accordance with the federal Policy on Green Procurement.

The NBC relies on its Sustainable Development Policy* effective since November 2010.

Departmental Green Procurement Target :

Ongoing plans to renew the vehicle fleet based on new technology (electric, hybrid) that will help to reduce consumption of fossil fuels

The purchase of an electric vehicle was less performant and more expensive.

The NBC proceeded to the purchase of a small commercial vehicle XRT 1550 that functions with gas and is additionally much more sustainable and performant. This allowed to avoid the purchase of a more energy-consuming big van.

Departmental Green Procurement Target:

Extend awareness of responsible procurement concepts to encompass office and computer equipment and existing promotional materials in order to optimize their use, encourage recycling and reduce paper consumption.

Purchase of supplementary licences and computer hardware for the software for orders and maintenance of the Infrastructures and Projects Service.

Achieved

In 2016-2017, the NBC has continued:

  • - the awareness of the employees, the suppliers and subcontractors to the concept of responsible procurement;
  • - taking in consideration criteria of sustainable development in call for tenders.
