2009-2010 School Year

Be part of the educational activities especially prepared for high school students. More than 75 000 participants in 2008. Here are entertaining and educational activities in which students will be at the center of the action.

SOLDIER OF THE MARTELLO TOWER

Accompanied by British officers, learn all about the living conditions of the soldiers billeted in one of the Martello Towers. Students take part in the 1812 military lifestyle within a very interactive historical activity through competitions and games. Accessories : guns, wooden horse, artefacts and early 19th century decor.

Period: all year round.
Maximum capacity: 100 students (from April 15 to October 14) or 80 students (from October 15 to April14).
Presentation (costumed character): 1 guides.
Duration: 90 minutes.
Language: English or French.
Meeting place: Martello Tower 1 (overlooking the river) or Martello Tower 2 (at the corner of Taché and Wilfrid-Laurier streets, Quebec City).
Cost: $5.25 / student. A minimum charge will apply.

THE MILITARY (THE BATTLE OF THE PLAINS OF ABRAHAM)

Under the command of both generals Wolfe and Montcalm, revisit the soldier’s living conditions during the 1759 battle on the Plains of Abraham. Go over the strategies, load rifles and guns, become an expert in artillery, treat your wounded fellows who fell on the battlefield. Accessories : guns, rifles, surgery instruments, cartridges, material of the artilleryman, cannonballs.

Period: all year round.
Maximum capacity: 225 students.
Presentation (costumed characters): 2 guides per 75 students.
Duration: 90 minutes.
Language: English or French.
Meeting place: Discovery Pavilion of the Plains of Abraham (835 Wilfrid-Laurier Ave, Quebec City).
Cost: $4,50 / student. A minimum charge charge will apply.

ODYSSEY: A JOURNEY THROUGH HISTORY ON THE PLAINS OF ABRAHAM

Set course for the Odyssey multimedia exhibition and relive the rich, colourful past of the Plains of Abraham, the cradle of Canadian history. Embark on a virtual 400-year journey, with historical figures at your side, ranging from the birth of New France to the park's creation through the famous battle of the Plains of Abraham. Over 20 regimental uniforms from 1759-1760 complete this exhibition. Accessories: head phones, special effects, artefacts, scale models, anecdotes, animatronic character and video.

Period: all year round.
Maximum capacity: 75 students.
Activity : supervised self-guided tour.
Duration: 75 minutes.
Language: English or French.
Meeting place: Discovery Pavilion of the Plains of Abraham (835 Wilfrid-Laurier Ave, Quebec City).

AT YOUR SCHOOL
WOLFE AND MONTCALM (secondary 3 and 4 students)

Along with General Wolfe and General Montcalm, go over the great strategies of the Siege of Quebec City which occurred in the summer of 1759. Learn all the subtle details of battling in ranks by being part of our rifle loading competition. Participate in an intriguing historical quiz and see every particular aspect of the soldier’s uniform. Accessories : rifles, artefacts, big size map, uniforms.

Period: from September 2009to April 2010.
Maximum capacity: 1 to 2 classes at a time.
Presentation (costumed characters) : 2 guides.
Duration: 1 hour or 1 period.
Language: English or French.
Meeting place : your school.
Cost: $5.25 / student. A minimum charge will apply.
Restriction: school located within a 50-km radius from the Plains of Abraham. Beyond this distance, charges may apply.

A reservation is mandatory for every activity. Sportswear adapted to the weather occurring during the visit is required. The activities take place in all weathers unless otherwise informed by the National Battlefields Commission. A dining-room can be available on request. All costs include taxes and are payable to the Receiver General of Canada. Prices and details are subject to change.
