The Convict's last drink

What will his fate be?

Witnesses are gathered at Jos Vaillancourt's Tavern to discuss the fate of the culprit: What will be his punishment be? Be part of this highly colourful investigation and have your fill of history: military justice, leisure activities and punishment experienced by the soldiers, suspense, quiz, all presented with a taste of humour in the evocative setting of the Martello Tower.

Council of War at the Martello Tower 2

2001 Winner of the prize of excellence in heritage interpretation awarded by the Association Québécoise en Interprétation du Patrimoine

Become witness and suspect during an 1814 style mystery dinner

Get under the skin of the Charles-Michel de Salaberry or Laura Secord characters to unmask the traitor who sold important information to the enemy and... who is hiding among you! A period dinner with activities, in the evocative setting of the Martello Tower, a 19th-century defensive work.

Right from the start, the Martello Tower takes you back to 1814 as you become witnesses and suspects during this Council of War presided over by Captain John Le Breton or Lady Elizabeth Lake, who will choose among you ten participants to play the roles of period characters. An intrigue as thrilling as it is delectable in an incomparable historic site!

You will sample a soldier’s fare, a menu typical of the British occupation of the Martello tower and get a glimpse of a soldier’s lifestyle for the span of an evening. Among the leaders, the intellectuals, the allies, engineers and military personnel attending this Council of War, try to discover who sold information to the enemy for a phenomenal sum. Could it be the mentally unstable daughter of a distinguished lawyer who would do anything to recapture her lost love? The opportunistic, ambitious officer ready to do anything for glory? Or the Amerindian chief with a taste for quackery? It is up to you to find the guilty party.

A historic meal, an intrigue worthy of this period, military competitions, anecdotes on military life, the food soldiers eat and their duties while quartered in the barracks, this is what you can expect when you attend this highly entertaining dinner. Participate in this historic event, unique in Québec City. A lively, different way of looking at history.
