THE SNOWSHOER'S WALK
Winter sports and recreation of bygone days on the Plains of Abraham

Put on your caps, mittens and snowshoes and set off to unveil the sports secrets of the cold season on the Plains of Abraham. Join a snowshoer of the 20th century and relive the “Belle Époque” of these winter strolls. Along the course you will discover the history of the Quebec Bulldogs’ Stanley Cup triumph, ski jumping, ski jorring, and lots more. This is a one-of-a-kind recreational activity that will make you shiver with delight. Snowshoes and lanterns included.

Period: from December to March.
Maximum capacity: 40 participants.

This blockbuster show revisits the Plains of Abraham’s 400-year history, from the arrival of the first explorers to the Plains as we know them today. A grandiose historical epic, some forty evocative scenes, 500 volunteer walk-ons, approximately 1,300 costumes, nearly 2,000 characters who helped shape our history and our imagination.

Period: from August 17 to 21.
Maximum capacity: 3,300 participants / performance.
Presentation (costumed characters): nearly 2,000.
Duration: 83 minutes.
Language: French.
Meeting place: site of large-scale events (behind the Discovery Pavilion of the Plains of Abraham).

PIRATES, PRIVATEERS AND FREEBOOTERS

Immerse yourself in the history of these adventurers of the 16th through the 19th centuries, who spread fear on America’s oceans. Anchors away, with a famous pirate, find out about the functions and living conditions of crew members, the navigation techniques, the risks of the treasure seekers’ trade, the laws and punishments, and more. Put your senses to the test and cast off for this fascinating interactive exhibition. Up lads and at’em!

  • The multimedia exhibition Québec 1759-1760, Battlefield Between Two Empires for the 250th anniversary of the battles, including film and scale models.

  • Student Masterworks, a hundred or so replicas of New France historical objects created by secondary school students.

A historic bicycle tour of the Plains of Abraham

Get on one of our bikes and join a famous cyclist as you discover the history of the summer sports and leisure of yore. At the bends in the winding paths of the Plains, you will learn about the history of the Royal Golf Club, horce races, circuses, and more. This bicycle tour will take you from wonder to wonder as you marvel at the sights. Bicycles and helmets included.

ARTILLERYMAN

Learn about the lifestyle of soldiers stationed in the Martello Towers together with British officers, an interactive historical activity on the military life of soldiers serving with the Royal Artillery during the War of 1812. Tools: flintlocks, cannons, period objects and setting.

REDISCOVER THE HISTORY OF UPTOWN QUEBEC CITY'S FASHIONABLE SOCIETY FROM 1880 TO 1960

Uncover the best kept secrets of fashionable society on Grande Allée and admire the range of architectural trends of one of Quebec City’s most elegant streets. Revisit the leisure activities practised by the elite of society. Lastly, have a guided tour of the Louis S. St. Laurent Heritage House, residence of the former Canadian Prime Minister from 1948 to 1957, and share his family’s memories.

THE CONVICT'S LAST DRINK

In the 19th century, a crime was committed by a British soldier on furlough. An innkeeper welcomes you to help shed light on the case. Be part of this highly colourful investigation and have your fill of history: military justice, leisure activities and punishment experienced by the soldiers, suspense, quiz, all presented with a taste of humour in the evocative setting of the Martello Tower.

Period: from September to April.
Maximum capacity: 55 participants.
Presentation (costumed character): 1 guide / 20 participants.
Duration: 75 minutes.

BATTLES AND VICTUALS

Come and enjoy a history-flavoured meal on the Plains of Abraham and plunge back in time right into the battles of Quebec City and the French and Indian War. Choose one of the two following activities (see descriptions): Wolfe and Montcalm give a show of their own or the Odyssey multimedia exhibition. Sample these exciting moments that will provide lasting memories.

WOLFE AND MONTCALM GIVE A SHOW OF THEIR OWN
Winner of the "La Grande Séduction en groupe" prize awarded by the APAQ

Have a ringside seat to watch a friendly clash between generals Wolfe and Montcalm. To decide who is the winner between these two generals, a contest is organized… in which their hosts will represent them. A gun loading competition, military and surgery quizzes will seal this thorny situation permanently.

ODYSSEY: AJOURNEY THROUGH HISTORY ON THE PLAINS OF ABRAHAM

Set course for the Odyssey multimedia exhibition and relive the rich, colourful past of the Plains of Abraham, the cradle of Canadian history. Embark on a virtual 400-year journey, with historical figures at your side, ranging from the birth of New France to the park's creation through the battles of the Plains of Abraham and Sainte-Foy. Approximately 20 uniforms associated with the battles complete this exhibition. Accessories: head phones, special effects, artefacts, scale models, anecdotes, animatronic character and video. Tea served on request.

WOLFE AND MONTCALM ON FURLOUGH

The two famous generals get a new lease on life by offering you a face-to-face encounter as dramatic as it is interactive. This encounter being of varying length, the two generals will adjust their aim and performance to fit your clientele and your activity.

COUNCIL OF WAR AT THE MARTELLO TOWER

Enjoy a typical meal served to British soldiers during the occupation of the tower, in the early 19th century. Solve an intrigue for which your presence is required as witness and suspect. The traitor who sold information to the Americans hides within your group. Your skills and deductive abilities will be requested and perhaps will enable your team to win the victory. The everyday life and conditions of the soldiers in barracks will have no secrets for you. Suspense, quiz, and punishments form a package which is shown with humour in a reminiscent decor of a unique defence fortification in Quebec.

With General Wolfe or General Montcalm as your guide, discover the many treasures of one of the world’s most prestigious urban parks. Revisit the great battles, the big public demonstrations, the Bulldogs of Québec’s victory along with numerous other adventures and peculiar historical features. Also, admire all the splendors of a unique landscape, the colours of Joan of Arc Garden, the Martello Tower, flower beds and many other things. Our historical character can come on board your bus or join you for a walking tour.

A reservation is mandatory for every activity. Sportswear adapted to the weather occurring during the visit is required. The activities take place in all weathers unless otherwise informed by the National Battlefields Commission. A dining-room can be available on request. All costs include taxes and are payable to the Receiver General of Canada. Prices and details are subject to change.
